Brighter Days Ahead

A Young Woman's Story of Fortitude Living with Obstetrical Brachial Plexus Injury.

Behind My Book

I began to write this book in 2012 because my mother brought it to my attention that it is very important for me to share my story on what it is like for me to live with Obstetrical (From Birth) Brachial Plexus Injury. I grew up pretty much alone with my injury for years but I knew I was not the only one living with it. I also want to use my book as tool to help shine a light on those within the BPI | Erbs Palsy community including family and friends, service providers, support groups, and anyone else around the world who has an interest in helping to raise awareness for Brachial Plexus Injury!

BOOK REVIEWS

DR. FRED MATHEWS - Psychologist & Author of "The Invisible Boy"

“Some books you read in life entertain or provide information. Some inspire you. Then there is that rarest of book with content that reaches deeply into life and gets inside you, past your biases, filters and defenses and leaves you changed - forever. Wynnikka Matthews has written such a book. On every page she provides a frank, courageous and often gritty portrayal of a life lived with disability. Her plain speaking style of storytelling is heart wrenching and cuts to the core. But hers is no ordinary story.

Look closer and you will also discover an account of the power of love, forgiveness and compassion and how it can shape and transform a human life. That she understands this so completely in her young life is humbling. Unconditional acceptance passed to her from loving parents and siblings fostered in Wynnikka a resilience she embodies as a living truth. Her book is a record of her journey to find acceptance and wholeness in a world that continues to struggle with difference.”
